Pumpkin Spice Play Dough

Little M. ran out of play dough the other day (read: mixed all the colors into one big blob and then asked me to kindly separate them- um...no), so I decided that it would be a great time to make a fresh batch of home made play dough in the spirit of the autumn season!

You will need:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 TBSP oil (I used canola)
  • 2 tsp cream of tarter
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ginger
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • red & yellow food coloring
  • pot
  • spatula
  • container
Ask your lovely assistant to pour the ingredients in the pot as you measure them out.  Little M. loves this step.  Although, she is used to baking (wet and dry ingredients go into separate bowls) so she kept asking when we would do the wet ingredients.

Once all of the ingredients are in, invite your lovely assistant to mix the ingredients together with the spatula.  Little M. got tired, so she asked me to take turns with her.

Once everything is well mixed, transfer to the stove top.  Cook on low, stirring constantly.  For me, this step took about 10 minutes.  Little M. made play dough in her play kitchen while I was busy with this step.

When your play dough is no longer runny, and sticks to the spatula instead of your pot, you have play dough.  Place it in a container and cool.
