Book Roundup: The Five Senses

This week Little M. and I have been learning about the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Each day for the next five days, I will be posting activities and ideas for one of those five senses. Today, I though I would share a list of our favorite books about the senses. I may add titles as we discover them. Our favorite is at the bottom!

Our Favorite Books About the Five Senses

6. They All Saw a Cat, by Brendan Wenzel: A cat goes for a stroll and many different creatures use their senses to see the cat. Each creature's senses perceive the cat differently. Each illustration of the cat demonstrates the unique physiology of that animal that sees the cat.  It is an extraordinarily creative children's book.

5. The Five Senses, by Jennifer Prior: This is a very detailed rundown of all of the senses and how they work in the body. I would highly recommend it for kids who are very interested in the human body.

4. My Five Senses, by Aliki: This simple little book is perfect for babies and young toddlers who are starting to gain an awareness of the body and how it works. The illustrations are adorable. The child will learn what body parts help us perceive the world as well as how an individual uses the senses to gain knowledge about the world.

3. Hello Ocean, by Pam Munoz Ryan: A little girl takes a trip with her family to visit the ocean. She uses her five senses to describe the ocean in detail. This book is filled with gorgeous illustrations and inviting poetry.

2. Spring for Sophie, by Yael Werber: Sophie can't wait for it to be spring. Her parents tell her what signs of spring to watch for. She listens, sees, feels, smells, and tastes the coming spring. Very cute book about using the senses.

1. How Do I See? And Other Questions About Our Senses, edited by Jane Chisholm: Little M. was absolutely enthralled by this book. Each question is on a flap, which the child can lift to find their answer. The information is presented in an easy to understand way, but contains great information.

Thank you for reading.  If you enjoyed this list, please share or leave a comment.  I would love to hear from you!  What are your favorite books about the senses?
